The Issues

We need to provide the students at WCHS with the best possible education and opportunities that we can reasonably afford.  School Safety is also a top priority and Tim will make every effort to keep the best interest of the students at the forefront of every decision that has to be made by the board.

School funding is obviously an issue that needs to be addressed in Springfield.  Tim has worked to influence legislation that would improve school funding.

Tim assisted in getting this group of WCHS students to the capital for a teen rally on school funding.

Tim supported SB750, which would have raised the state income tax, while giving property tax relief.  This bill, as it was proposed, would have been a giant step in reforming the way schools are funded.  It would have made schools less dependent on property taxes and utilize tax dollars from those most able to pay, those who have the income.

Sales Tax Referendum

Tim believes that the facilities sales tax is a creative way to raise funds to address the continuing need for improvements to the WCHS facilities. While the new addition has significantly improved our campus there are many additional items that need to be addressed.

The WCHS tennis courts were covered with "plastic tiles" about 15 years ago.  This was seen as a short term fix to the surfaces that may last ten years.  The Board is currently looking to decide on whether the current location of the tennis courts is the best or if they should be moved.  This is only one example of a pending project that would not have to be paid for with real estate tax dollars, if the facilities sales tax was in place.

Balanced Budget

Tim believes that a balanced budget in the Educational fund is critical to the long term health of our school district.  While WCHS adopted deficit budgets in the Educational Fund for a number of years, in the fiscal year ending June 30, 2009, and each year since, the WCHS Finance Committee has been able to present the Board with a balanced budget for adoption.
